Will it be the Year of the Tiger? It’s up to you

by Allison Skidmore | Feb 1, 2022 | Tiger Conservation, Wildlife Conservation

Today, February 1st, 2022, is the first day of the Year of the Tiger, ushering in a year of ‘fortune favors the bold’ with symbolizations of strength, tenacity, and boldness. The Lunar New Year, also known as the Chinese New Year, will be celebrated by nearly 2...

I am so please to announce that an article about my PhD research on tiger poaching in the Russian Far East has been published in National Geographic! This is such an important step to raise global awareness for an issue about this horrific wildlife crime that Russia...

The Forgotten Sister

by Allison Skidmore | Sep 29, 2021 | Environmental Issues, Wildlife Conservation

The Forgotten Sister   There was once a land of wild expanse that rivaled all else in the world. With imposing beasts and formidable lands that could be found around every turn. A close but forgotten sister of the Serengeti, punished by the same unforgiving...

Extinction Risk in Carnivore Species

by Allison Skidmore | Apr 27, 2021 | Environmental Issues, Wildlife Conservation

Expressions akin to ‘the sixth mass extinction event’, ‘losing biodiversity at an unprecedented rate’, and ‘we are in an extinction crisis’, have made their way into the language of modern culture and mass media. You no longer need to be a scientist to know that the...

Hi, I am Allison Skidmore, welcome to Leave Them Wild! It is probably no surprise to learn that I have been a vegetarian since I was a child. I am against all forms of animal and wildlife exploitation. Besides working on wildlife trafficking issues, I am also a fervent advocate against the private ownership of exotic animals- particularly big cats. I believe archaic practices and organizations, like circuses, cub-petting facilities, and road-side zoos, should be banned outright. I support The Big Cat Public Safety Act (H.R. 1380- S.2561), a federal bill that would nationally ban the private ownership of big cats and stop exploitative roadside zoos from offering cub petting and photo ops.
